Lauren Kaplan serves as counsel to DeSimone, Aviles, Shorter & Oxamendi, LLP, making court appearances, arguing motions, taking depositions, preparing all litigation-related documents and conducting research.

She has represented corporations, municipalities and individuals in a broad spectrum of legal matters. Her areas of expertise include plaintiff’s personal injury, medical malpractice, insurance defense, appellate litigation, no-fault arbitration and complex mediation.

Early in her career, Ms. Kaplan gained experience at the New York City Transit Authority and as a law clerk to two Supreme Court Justices, where she conducted research and drafted memoranda in the areas of contracts, real estate, employment discrimination and torts. Thereafter, Ms. Kaplan worked as an Associate with the law firm Fischbein Badillo Wagner Harding, where she worked on complex litigation matters involving securities, real estate, civil rights, tort and

medical malpractice actions. Ms. Kaplan also had the opportunity to work with a legal team representing several police officers and the Town in a high profile Civil Rights Section 1983 action in the Southern District of New York.

Ms. Kaplan was most recently profiled in the New York Law Journal for her pro bono representation of a burn victim severely injured in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Ms. Kaplan serves on the Board of the Jewish Lawyers Guild. In addition, she is a member of the New York Trial Lawyers Association, the Women's Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. She is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey, and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Ms. Kaplan received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she was awarded a Richardson Merit Scholarship. She also made the Dean’s List and received the CALI Excellence Award for Wills & Administration and the CALI Excellence Award for Unincorporated Business Associations. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society from the State University of New York at Binghamton, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1994.
