Michael J. Aviles is founder and senior partner of DeSimone, Aviles, Shorter & Oxamendi, LLP. He is experienced in legal matters involving insurance defense, general commercial litigation, entertainment law, high-profile personal injury cases, medical malpractice, civil rights violations and employment disputes.

Mr. Aviles has played a major role in numerous cases involving national corporations such as McDonald’s, Ryder Truck Rentals, Chase Manhattan Bank, Penske Truck Leasing and Prudential-Baches Securities. He has participated in arbitrations before the NASD and NYSE. He has successfully litigated a number of high-profile cases with multi-million dollar settlements.

He was on the legal team representing 24 families who lost loved ones in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, the second deadliest air disaster in U.S. history.

Early in his career, Mr. Aviles served as vice president of CLM Realty, Inc., where he was responsible for all aspects of the development and management of commercial properties.

He is a member of the American and New York State Bar Associations.

Mr. Aviles is admitted to practice law in New York.

He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1998, where he was vice president of the Latin American Law Students Association. He graduated from Pace University, with Dean’s List honors, with a Bachelor of Arts in History, class of 1994.
